ULTRA is a teacher development initiative designed to transform how educators teach by focusing on what learners can do, not just what they know. It equips teachers with practical skills to deliver engaging, outcome-based, and learner-centered instruction that leads to real understanding and application.

Built on the principles of applied pedagogy, ULTRA bridges the gap between theory and practice by emphasizing hands-on teaching, active learning, and performance-based assessment. Teachers are trained to design lessons that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world relevance across all levels of education.

A key strength of ULTRA is its ability to work effectively in low-resource and low-internet environments. Through context-based workshops and flexible delivery models, educators learn how to teach using available tools, local materials, and offline strategies, ensuring that quality education is accessible in any setting. ULTRA supports the development of teachers who are confident, adaptable, and focused on results - ultimately improving learning outcomes and preparing learners for real-life challenges.

ULTRA is built around these key focus areas:

Applied Pedagogy Training
ULTRA supports teachers to move beyond theory by developing the skills to design and deliver engaging, competency-based, and learner-centered instruction. The focus is on teaching for performance, understanding, and measurable outcomes.

Developing Learner-Centred Educational Content
The initiative promotes the creation of practical, accessible, and context-relevant learning materials that actively engage learners. Content is designed to support interaction, critical thinking, and real-world application, even in low-tech environments.

Developing Microcredentials for Skills Training in Low-Internet Areas
ULTRA enables institutions to design and deliver modular, competency-based microcredentials that are accessible in low-connectivity settings. These programs support flexible, continuous learning and recognize skills that are directly relevant to employment and lifelong development.

ULTRA® TVET

ULTRA TVET is designed to transform how technical and vocational educators teach in low-resource and low-connectivity environments.

The initiative shifts instruction from:

  • content delivery → competency mastery
  • theory-heavy teaching → hands-on application
  • passive learning → task-based performance

It equips TVET teachers with the capacity to deliver industry-relevant, practical skills training using resource-adaptive methods.

ULTRA Lite: Offline Learning. Anywhere. Anytime.

ULTRA Lite is a delivery model under the ULTRA Initiative designed to ensure that quality learning remains accessible in low-internet and no-internet environments. It provides educators and learners with offline instructional materials that can be easily used on laptops, desktop computers, or televisions using USB flash drives.

Built for flexibility and accessibility, ULTRA Lite enables the distribution of structured learning content, teaching resources, and training modules without the need for continuous connectivity. This makes it especially effective in underserved communities, remote locations, and institutions with limited digital infrastructure.

In addition, ULTRA Lite supports education in emergency and disrupted contexts by developing print-based and offline learning materials for areas affected by conflict, displacement, or natural disasters. These resources ensure continuity of learning when traditional systems are unavailable.

By combining offline digital content with print materials, ULTRA Lite extends the reach of education, making it possible for teaching and learning to continue anywhere, under any conditions.
